There is a short article with images, about some Promotional Shots taken in the Spring of 1939 for The Standard Oil Company of Wisconsin and/or one of the Company's Representatives.

The article is in "The Old Motor Online Magazine"; and has some great images...

Thanks for the interesting link, Bob. The gas station "in action" photos are great! John

Wonder what was in the bottom of that display case--there appears to be a pipe running from it into the concrete island.

I get a kick out of how these sites will identify items in the show case, the can of oil, the make of the car, but no mention of who made the gas pumps.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the two pumps on either end are Gilbert & Barker 83-TMs first made in 1933. The pump in the center is a newer pump, also made by G&B, the model 86, first made in 1936.

This type of display case was made by a number of companies, but the only pump company that ever advertised one was Erie. I don't believe this display case was made by Erie, but by a independent maker. These display cases were also sold to dentist and doctors to use in their offices.

Question. Why was Standard oil selling Quaker State oil when these pictures were to promote the Standard brand items?

Great pictures showing that stations were not always up to date. You have a Solite (premium gas) globe on top of a Stanolind (Blue Crown motor grade) pump. Hard to tell, they may have painted over the Solite letters to repurpose it as a Blue Crown. You also have a Red Crown Ethyl globe on top of a Solite (unleaded) branded pump. Guess I can stop being so anal about originality on my stuff.....
