I am currently restoring an eco model 97 meter. My question is. Do i paint the mechanical parts i have cleaned up ? I was thinking of a light coat of silver/primer paint. The meter will be used/displayed inside the garage.
First attemp at one.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Yes, I will say you are correct on this. I have done several of these units and have had some restored for me. I have used Rust-Olium colors Silver Metallic & Matte Nickel. Lately I have had the rear cover brackets media blasted then powder coat primed in a medium dark gray. The bell I like to have blasted then just a light clear coat. I also like to remove the center rib that runs around the periphery of the harp. Good Luck, Petro2013

After 350 I smile and try and think back as to how many had the rib running around the center of the harp and how may were just smooth. Releasticly this was a cast part and how long did the mold last between each casting? Did the rib eventually dissapear or did the next mold not have a rib on it?
I believe the outside should be as original, no polished harp, no grinding away marks that were there when the meter was new, again original.
Each of us who restore these meters puts their own imput into the restoration, restoring them the way they want to, do what you want, you are the one who will look at it.
If you have any question about the meter, call me at: 314-427-3943.

Thank you for the information.
My harp still has the rib from the casting mold.
I like to keep things original as possible (only that way once).
When I redid my 289 out of my 1966 Mustang convertible, it looks like the day it rolled out of the factory.
Makes my day when older people who have owned or had one from new, comment on my engine and engine bay.

Jeff, I understand about keeping the rib, I have 4 meters were I have removed the rib and chromed the Harp, not original but sure looks good. I also have some harps painted with and without the rib.
Scott, Rollers for a Islander or Model 93?

The upper 2 harps are chrome plated with the rib removed. The lower is a very old restoration right from a gas station in Indiana, still has the rib.

Originally the meters were painted, they went to powder coating in the mid-1970s.
