Just seen these Gulf plates. I've done some searching and hadn't found anything on them. They are double sided and similar in size and style to a pump plate. If fake, why would they make it double sided?

Did Gulf ever make and use a double sided plate/sign like this? Maybe a small hanging sign or a stand?

NO. They are as fake as the day is long.

...user ID has only been on eBay since Tuesday...

...from the auction description - look for the red flags:

"Each plate measures about 11 3/8" wide at the top,10 1/4" wide at the bottom, and 8 1/2" tall. These plates are unusual because they are double sided. As you probably realize there is no need for a pump plate to be double sided. These plates were found in an old building in a small town in Pa. that was about to be torn down.I have no other info as I got them after they had passed through several other dealers.I showed them to several advertising dealers, and several dealers said these were probably test plates, and never intended to be sold to Gulf. They said that sometimes sign companies would use both sides when running tests because it was cheaper that way.I have 20 sets of these plates (40 total plates).Send me a text if you are interested in multiple sets.I am not trying to get rich off of these.I will take a small profit.Pay no attention to the asking price.Just make me a fair offer.Text 423 302 9809"

Now we have a new story on Ebay"..these were run as a test so when one side wore out they could flip it. But the executives didn't like the idea and stopped it after a few months.."

What's next??
