Hey all, I was lucky enough to score this Flexlume glass letter sign at the end of 2015 in a package deal. I recently got a chance to clean up the letters and install them back in the sign. When I first purchased this I thought no doubt it needed a restoration. I'm more of a purist with pumps and have always preferred original paint but I like my signs as clean as possible. However I'm really up in the air on this sign? I won't be doing anything anytime soon either way so I have time to consider my options. I would surely appreciate what everyone thinks they would do if it were theirs? It is staying in the collection regardless. Thanks
Mainly focused on Oilzum, Jenney, Harris Oil items & original paint gas pumps.

IMO it's only old and rusty once that can mean different things to others, but I think that if you really want to have best of both worlds, do a rustoration, clean letters with a rusty crusty paint job would look good. But if you like the best out of your signs then there's your answer.

I would personally restore it to as new condition, due to the fact that it isn't a porcelain sign it just doesn't have the "WOW factor" it deserves sitting there rusty and bent up. Again, my opinion, to each his own. Darin

I'm half way in-between. Since you can take the letters out, I'd probably make a whole new exact duplicate sign, paint it up and put the letters in it. I'd put the original metalwork,as is, away. Then it's always available for returning it to original, as found status. John

use it for a pattern , make a new one for the old letters. Save the old one.

If it was mine, I’d leave it ‘as is’… looks great!

That's a very unique look having the "new" look mounted on the old. Interesting to look at. I like it. Do you have a picture of a restored one to post up for comparison?

I've never seen this sign before. I tried to research it to see what it would have looked like but couldn't find another. I'd love to find an old photo with one of these in use but again so far I have found nothing. However thanks for all the responses. Im surely leaning toward keeping it original.
