 15" globe snap rings vs small clips

So I got a globe today from the morphy's auction. No not the one I wanted but I had to come away with something. Well it came with these little metal clips on one side instead of a ring.
1) are these clips worth a cr@p? Are they trustworthy? There's only 3 of them. (BTW, the add said nothing about missing a snap ring. Oh well)
2)before I buy a repop snap ring, is there any that are better then others? My main concern being the diameter of the wire.

Steve, I have 2 old frames with the clips and there is also a ring in place, as well as the clips, to protect the lens from falling out. I guess it was just an extra precaution in the day?
Looking for early valvoline, freedom-valvoline, franklin pa items, Galena

Some early metal frame globes used clips instead or in addition to snap rings. I would go with snap rings though...Scott B.
