I need some advice on straightening the sheet metal on this gas pump. It may be hard to tell from the picture but the sheet metal it is more oval shaped rather than round. It looks like it was laid on its side and then something fell on it flattening it. Anyway, I need some ideas and how to straighten it. I already tried using 13 ratchet straps spaced evenly from top to bottom around the circumference of the sheet metal, with the sheet metal Loosely bolted together. However, that doesn't seem to work very well. When I use the ratchet straps, the sheet metal starts to take its original form, but then what happens is it creases or Bends right where the sheet metal pieces meet together. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you put the skins on frame, then use straps so you can bolt them together you should be able to lightly hammer the round shape back or at least get them close.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement...Since G+B Visible units do not use a frame other than the ribbed skins, you will need to bolt them to the base and top to hold the shape while working out the dents. Try doing one side at a time. These have always been a "Beast" of a restoration. I never seem to have enough hands? Paul www.severngaspumps.com

The dents I can work with, but its the general shape of the sheet metal when it is bolted to the bases that is a problem. When bolted, the top and bottom take on the correct shape, but the rest of it is football shaped, rather than mostly round.

Can you put like six 1/4" (or the biggest possible to fit your holes) all thread rods all the way through the all bolt holes, with washers and nuts on the outside and draw them a bit past the point, so as to actually get the steel to bend, rather than flex? -Just an Idea...
