My Father spent over 50 fifty years in the oil business. He has a double-sided porcelain Texaco Marine Motor Oil sign that is in excellent condition.

Have folks had success selling large dollar value items on this site?

I thank you in advance for your advice!

Steve

I would send it to Morphy Auctions if I were you... that sign is now avoided by many collectors due to the fakes and especially if sold thru ebay, it would not realize what it should.

If it was me, I'd list the sign on OldGas for your desired price before giving it to an auction house and paying them a consignment fee. It doesn't cost you anything to list an item here. If it doesn't sell at your desired price, then go the auction house route.

What Bryce said ! Pay a good commission to get to the deep pocket buyers when you have something of great value . The more people looking at it the better chance of achieving what you are looking for.
One of a limited quantity should get you maximum dollars . No disrespect to anyone here but business is business.
If someone wants it bad enough they will go wherever to buy it !

Set a price and sell it privately. Avoid the 20% commission plus income tax. You loose up to 50 % of the sales price to the auction house and taxes.

Steve,

You have nothing to lose by starting here first. Yes oldgas has some deep pocket buyers, and several have never posted but watch the site frequently. Great sign, and good luck with whatever you decide to do with it.. smile
