I wouldn't swear by it but what I heard from an old feller was that The Crypto Electrical Co gasoline / Kerosene pump was quite a deal for it's time. The 4 head independent clock dial metering system was able to serve 4 customers at a time. The fame was short lived as electricity was still a new thing on the frontier and lighting at the pump was not yet thought of. candles were generally lit in the evening to provide adequate lighting. Unfortunately the candles had a tendency to ignite the gasoline fumes, ultimately destroying the pump as well as the service station. Lawsuits would follow and THE CRYPTO ELECTRICAL Co was no more. I don't know for sure on this as the Crypto factory had one of the pumps sitting outside their own factory which actually exploded leveling the entire facility.

I guess after the glass was broke out they welded that stuff in to keep the hoods out. It was in kind of a rough part of town just off of 12th street and Delmar.
