Just found this impressive Derby in a partially collapsed barn in Oklahoma. Literally covered for decades by hay and dirt, this 6' double sided Derby sign dated is 1961. The sign is still attached to the "banjo" frame and the pole was laying right next to it!
This double sided 72" diameter porcelain sign has never been removed from it's frame. Coming from a station near Oklahoma City, this impressive sign was taken down and stored away until 2018. As you can see in the photos below, the sign is just as I found it, dirt and all. The steel pole is solid and even has the decorative flange for the base to cover the bolts.
The second photo below shows a section approximately 12" wide by 8" tall that we cleaned with water and elbow grease after the top photo was taken. You can clearly see just how beautiful the red, white an blue colors are under all the dirt. With it being so darn cold outside, a garden hose and sponge was the last thing on my mind, haha!
The sign is located in in Wichita, KS. I can store the sign and pole for 30 days before pick-up is made. The pole is 11' 3" tall and the sign in the frame from top to bottom is 6' 11". All the hard work of getting the top detached from the pole is done, it just ready for you to pickup, clean and enjoy.
