A friend of mine is offering to sell this sign to me. Very interested but want to make sure I get it for the right price. Any information on its history would be appreciated. It is single sided. It has three brackets on the back. Originally from South Dakota gas station.

Older version.facing left.Typical porcelain loss on the weak spots. What do you consider "the right price"?

Interested to know the value of this sign in its condition. Does a left or right facing sign call for a greater value? How old could this sign be? What do you guys think this sign is worth?

It can sometimes be difficult buying from a "friend", can't it? Has he quoted you a price? Knowing what he's asking would probably produce more comments from Old Gas members. By the way, is that a price tag hanging from one of the rear legs?
Also, there should be a fair number of completed major auctions from the past couple of years for signs similar to this one. Have you searched for those results online? John

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it is difficult buying from a friend. We have been friends for a long time but it is what it is. It is a tag. The sign is in a small antique shop in SE WI. The price he wants is $1800. I have looked online but I am not familiar with finding previous sales.

My buddy owns antique shop in South East Wisconsin. He usually gives me a decent deal on things that I want to buy from him. He has told me $1800 for the sign. He does not know much about it and has told me that someone offered more than $2500. I really like it want to get your professional opinions on it. I really like knowing the details and history on things like this. So it would be great to know if 1800 is about right or too much. I did a lot of looking online for similar signs. But, there seems to be so many different types I don’t want to make a mistake in looking at the wrong type. Also I am not familiar with finding old auction results. So can anyone tell me With their professional opinion the year this sign may have been built the type of sign (T53?) and the value. Thank you.

I am not a Mobil collector but I have that same left facing Peggy. I do believe those have been repoped but if it is an original than $1800 is a pretty good deal on the sign. If I were you I’d verify it’s original and if so buy it.

I'm not sure about in the mid west but on the east cost people ask insane money for those signs. The last left facing pegasus I came across the guy wanted $3,000 for it. If I could even find one at $1,800 it would already be home.

Guys, I am hopefully going to get good number of detailed pictures of the sign by tomorrow. Is there anything I should focus on to prove whether or not it is authentic?

Guys, Here are the pictures of the sign I am looking to buy. Please help me determine if this sign is an original and what it’s value should be. What are the identifiying markings that prove one way or another about the signs authenticity?
I have included two pictures from Oldgas.com of a similar sign that was deemed original and was sold. I have marked these pictures with, (PIC OF KNOWN AUTHENTIC) for comparison.
Thank you all for your help, Scott
