Hello All,
Happy 4th to all....we had our fireworks show in Hillsdale last evening. In between the parade and the evening fireworks we had a heckuva heavy rainfall, but it timed itself perfectly and it was dry for the main events.

I'm proud to know my 5th and 4th great grandfathers (father and son) were fighters for independence in the Revolutionary War. Capt. Joseph Nail and Ensign Joseph Nail Jr. were at the Battle of Kettle Creek, and their names are on the monument there. I hope to visit someday and see it.
Stay cool out there today!

My wife and I took a drive around our area and there was an oil component to it. We went by an antique shop down the shore that had an old pump and two big filling station signs. I didn't get agood look at the pump, but the signs were for Gulf and Mobil and likely less that 50 years old.

That was the good news. The bad news is that one of the oldest filling stations in CT, Maple Shade in Salem, is closed. I hadn't been by it in a while. According to their Facebook page, they closed last September. I'm not sure how old they were, but the station was "grandfathered" and allowed to sell beer. It's the only one in Conn. I am aware of that had that exemption from the liquor laws.
