This sign is coming up in Penn's next auction. Reads 39 inches, GSW, dated and made in Canada. It is nothing but
repop garbage that some ahole has made up.

You should call the auction house and let them know.
I have found that letting these auction houses know about certain signs will usually cause them to withdraw them or mark them as age unknown.

I understand your frustrations, but the sign is exactly as described.
Nowhere do they claim it's original - or even old.
And the lower price range figure shown on the listing should tip off anyone that it's not 'real'.
A starting bid of $50 for an original?
I don't think so.

But JIm--That estimate also includes a top price of $10,000 and THAT is very misleading! I am of the thought that a sale of antique advertising signs should be just that and nothing more? By inserting questionable or obvious reproductions, you are simply operating in the "greed category" and have no respect for the items being auctioned! They are simply in it for the commission and nothing more. I had heard about Rich's last auction at IG and I wasn't there, so I can't speak firsthand. There were enough comments from some of the most knowledgeable collectors in this hobby, to lead me to believe that something was wrong, and Rich Penn's actions concerning this sign, tend to further confirm the intentions of this auctioneer. There are enough memorabilia auctions in the world, that we surely don't need to attend the dubious ones! I think it would be best if everyone steered clear of his auctions with the attitude he has displayed!

All items listed in this auction are estimated at: $50 - $10,000. However, describing this sign as rare, and from 1950, while describing other known reproductions
in this same auction as contemporary, is misleading. Obviously just plain greed on their part.
