M&S 80 cyclops pump.

Ok, I reefed on this thing pretty good and no dice. How much force does it take to remove that big nut? I don't want to break anything. In great shape but has a film inside.

Put a little heat on the outer diameter of the threaded nut away from the glass. It is a pot metal material and will not take very much heat. I like to use a little propane torch, be careful not to overheat it as it will blister.

Sometimes a lot! I usually use the biggest pipe wrench we have.

I do use heat too, like Ryan does.

I have had pretty good luck, heating the ring and letting it cool.. I do this several times which allows the expansion and contraction to add a little stress to the threads. If it still resists, I will heat the nut and give it a few direct hits with a wooden mallet on the sides of the nut rather than the face side of it.
