Found this today, on top of a Tokheim 39 tall gas pump. The "lenses" are just under 15", there is no recess for a ring on the body as far as I can see. Looks like metal faces were mounted to the globe.
Anybody know anything about these? i've never seen anything like it before.

I think the bodies are similar to mine.

Never seen that animal before but it looks just like the one Les has. Cool piece and I would say pretty old. Guess they could've been originally on older visible pumps where there was no electricity and then later adapted for the bulbs. Tok 39's were introduced in the late thirties I believe so guess there would've been some that used the metal bodies but you don't usually see that. Nice find....GB

Yeah GB, I think it is older than a Tokheim 39 would be, just looks old and original, maybe missing light sheilds? Dont know. It does look like the same as Les pictured.

Paul, is the lens/brandiing area convex? I’ll take it down tomorrow for better pics.

a non-perforated metal lens would need exterior lighting. I've seen a few of these over the years. But not many.

Funny you ask that Les, we were just debating that. My father and I both looked at this globe earlier today. He thought it was convex but I'm pretty sure it was near flat. More pictures of yours would be great!, pretty sure you got the same item.

If this helps the branding area is concave on mine and is 14 3/4" in diameter. The graphics is a water slide decal, guess which side was on the weather side. On the outlets there are panels where the shades would slide down on, mine are missing. Hope this helps. I just noticed on your first image that it appears a panel has been screwed over the branding area, maybe there are some graphics left under it.

Thanks Les for posting these pictures. Definitely the same thing, except for the panels added on the one I pictured. I'll ask the owner to take the panels off carefully, see what we find underneath. Probably rusted away under there but might get lucky.

I have been rearranging all my literature and I believe I saw an advertisement for a metal globe, will try and find it, but it might take awhile.
