Seeing that sign in the photo made me chuckle. About 15 years ago on the way to the Check the Oil show we stopped at an auction in eastern PA. Bought a lot of stuff and crammed it all in a minivan, barely fitting it all. The old dude that used to help me at the shows, Ronnie, had to sit sideways for about six hours until we got to Columbus. Sold a bunch there so he got his seat back for the return trip home.
Stopped for fuel on the OH/PA border and there was one of those signs out back off the poles. It had to be about 16 feet long. I told Ronnie that I bought it and needed his help getting it onto the roof. He groaned like Lurch from the Addams Family tv show and then started pondering how he was going to be able to secure it. After a few minutes I let him know I was just messing with him and we had a good laugh.
Lots of Ronnie stories for another time. He's in a nursing home now for those that knew him.
Looking for photos, etc from 60s era Shell-A-Rama gas station and Pal's Diner, Rt. 17 Mahwah, NJ & US or state highway signs, shields, route markers
