I understand that a blue glass cylinder on a visible gas pump is desirable and more valuable. I am unversed concerning blue glass cylinders. I have included two photos of my Wayne 615 gas pump cylinder. At some angles it does appear to have a bluish tint but I am not for sure.
Can anyone speak to the matter of blue glass cylinders. Was there a purpose? Is there greater value?
Can anyone help me clarify from the photos if mine is indeed a blue glass cylinder?
Thanks in advance for any help! Steve

Was there a purpose?
...yes - my understanding is that it supposedly it kept the sun from fouling the gas and staining the cylinder...
Is there greater value?
...everytime I see one listed, it seems like it's a selling point...
Can anyone help me clarify from the photos if mine is indeed a blue glass cylinder?
...sure looks like one to me...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Mark is right on the purpose from what I've always been told. I think that the blue cylinders tend to bring a little more when they are sold by themselves for some reason but if a pump has an good original cylinder in it I don't think it matters that much in the overall value of a complete pump. Not all original cylinders were the blue tint glass and some of the less common sizes of cylinders bring about the same money, blue or not. Yours looks to be a blue one to me also....GB

I’m not so sure if yours is blue, it might just be dirty. It’s hard to tell - could be my phone too.
In your second pic when I look all the way through to the wall (next to the 7 gallon marker), it doesn’t seem to be tinted. But I could definitely be wrong, it’s hard to tell with the photo.
There are different shades of blue too. Some darker than others. Usually the blue is pretty obvious, however, the bottom right pump is my correct measure, and it’s pretty subtle (it’s a little darker in person).

Hey Steve...you may be right. And it is definitely dirty. When I look up close I can see what appears to be a bluish tint, but is is faint. I just did not know how to “make the call”. It definitely does not have a deep shade (if it is blue glass) like your two top pics. I really do appreciate your input.

It's just my two cents, I could be wrong. You can take the top off and clean the inside of the glass. Patina pumps look good with clean glass. Whatever glass it has, it doesn't matter, it's a great looking pump.

There was also a smokey gray tint that was used on glass cylinders, but not as prevalent as the blue.
