Picked this porcelain sign yesterday, 30" x 6', formerly neon. Plan on adding neon, any ideas about value with and without the neon. Want to make sure it's worth it. Thanks Jim Howard

Well what did you pay ? Always seems funny when someone picks something up and then wants to know what it is worth.

I've been collecting for about 25 yrs, I know enough to know I paid substantially less than what it's worth. I have not added neon to a sign before, just curious to know if the value would be worth the expense. If you must know I paid $350. I try not to go by the crazy prices on eBay for values. Thought someone would be kind enough to assist. What you pay for something is not always the value, however, I am quite happy with the purchase.

Neon always adds to the value. Not that many trade hands so it is not like there is a good track record for this sign. Shape of the porcelain and the fact that the neon has been added does bring more value. Had one before about 10 years ago with the porcelain in good shape no neon holes. $350 is what we got for it on the west coast. Now back in the midwest and east it may be a better market because of the name is familiar. Not bodies business what you paid and no one asked. If you are happy that is all that matters. But add the neon, make the can (8" thick) and mounting brackets. Clean up the sign and be happy that yours it one of the few.

I love this sign, Sealtest had an ice cream packaging facility in Omaha that my mother worked at summers when she was home from college. She said that was the most fun job because they got to try free ice cream at break! Cleaned up and lit I think that would be a valuable sign, especially like Craig said in an area familiar with the brand. I know a neon Lady in Omaha who would love to work on that, she is a true artist.

Thanks Craig and Skydog, I've only been a member for a short time, both gulfiend and nels have given me some great information about a couple of my signs. I like to put my hands signs I am interested in, too, many fakes on eBay. Thanks again
