The sign is 10' x 1' and I am in the process of cleaning it.

I am curious about the age of the sign.

Also there is some discoloration on the background as shown in picture 4. What causes this and is there any way to fix it?

This my first attempt at posting pictures here so I hope they come out OK

Have you tried Vinegar to clean some of the spots? I have never tried on Porcelain but seems like it would be ok and not abrasive.

No fixing the discoloration of the blue porcelain. That is caused by being in the sun and weather. Blue is probably the worst color for that and is a common occurrence. Nice original sign!

Thanks for the replies. A customer of the bank I do farm inspections for dug up several of them in the shelter belt around his farm house. I was lucky enough to get my pick, for what I thought was a reasonable price. I was tough choosing one since they have at least 40 years of crud from being buried and he has not cleaned them up.

You should be able to get better gloss on this sign by buffing it out like you would paint.
