It is with a heavy heart that this letter is being sent to announce that the 34th Annual Check the Oil Show held in Columbus, Ohio, has been canceled for this year. Through careful deliberation between CTO and Embassy Suites during a joint meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2020, we have come to the unfortunate conclusion that this year's event will not be able to occur in its entirety. Collectively we have consulted with the Ohio Health Department and Columbus Police Department with attention to state and federal guidelines and exhausted every effort to seek methods in which the show could continue as normal. As of now, there was no viable option to hold this event while adhering to social distancing protocols and other CDC/state guidelines for large events.

We have no choice but to cancel this year's show with ultimate respect for the safety and well-being of our exhibitors, attendees, and everyone associated with the Embassy Suites. The highest priority in all of this is the health and safety of all our loyal hobby enthusiasts. While we looked into options for still conducting a show, the nature of our event did not leave many possibilities; especially considering the proximity of the room to room trading and the congregation of attendees in the atrium area of the hotel. These two components alone would be particularly challenging to conduct safely and effectively. Aside from our guests' health, we cannot run the risk of moving forward with the possibility of the show being shut down and everyone having to go home. It is simply not fair to you as our dedicated attendees who travel and commit so much time and expense to end up attending a partial show.

Even though the show has been canceled, Check the Oil is still hosting the annual auction but as an online-only event. Shipping will be available for items won, delivery to future events and other options for delivery with Aaron Hop, Andy Hussar, or Dan Matthews may also be made. Please join us Saturday, June 27, 2020, at 10:00 am for a Live Simulcast online auction. Absentee and phone bidding will also be available but must be arranged before the day of sale. The online catalog will be live very soon on Proxibid at www.proxibid.com/checktheoil

We will be applying the monies received to next year's event for all registered attendees and exhibitors. We will record what you registered for, which will be communicated in the registration letters next winter. If you wish to receive a refund instead of applying the registration fees to next year’s event, please contact us at info@ctohotline.com by June 15, 2020. Refunds will be issued on July 1, 2020. We are asking for emails only for refund requests as it will be easier to manage and keep records of instead of phone calls directly to Aaron, Andy, or the 1-800 number. Also, please do not directly contact the Embassy Suites to cancel your hotel reservations as they are all handled through CTO. With the cancellation of the event as a whole, all room reservations have effectively been canceled as well, and your credit card will not be charged for any room or cancellation fees. We will only be returning the forms and un-cashed checks to those of you who have recently signed up and sent in your registration fees.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Check the Oil Show each year and are saddened this will not be the case for the 2020 event.

Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to see you all soon online and in person!

Sincerely,

Aaron & Andy

That’s definitely a bummer, but it is what it is. See you all in 2021.
