I have an opportunity to purchase 7 by 5 oval Esso sign that has been in storage for 50 yrs. Sign has ring holder and pole with brackets to hang the sign. Pole & ring has been kept outside. The sign is double sided porcelain in excellent shape. Picture of one side condition is just like the other side. Seller wants $4,000. I think yes, pay the price cause you don’t see this come around very often plus the sign is in excellent condition. Appreciate input on the price for condition and items. Tks.

The pole is a generic type that several different companys used It's not worth as much as the Standard type Big cast iron decorative base pole that most ESSO signs used . Having said that $4000.00 is a little high for the set up More like $3000.00 in my area.

Wanted early tin litho signage.

I searched for Esso pole and in 60 pages found a handful of Esso Signs on poles. Thanks poleman. Will go through all the pixs. Great way to learn. Some pixs are hard to make out but could use clarification on the base on the Esso poles. Looks like the base of the pole is heavily fluted. Was the flute all one piece of the base or extra pieces that went around the base? Also, looks like the poles were 2 colors...white upper portion and red bottom portion (matches the color of red in Esso?)...how far up on the pole did the red stop then white? I’m sure Esso had specifications even back then. Looks like advertising was attached to the middle of the pole, such as Esso Credit, restrooms.
