I have an all-original, pristine condition 1930s Pennzoil Owls lighted reverse-on-glass clock
(manufactured by Gill-Glass) I'm interested in trading:

By onesoundstate at 2008-02-16

Will trade for 1930s-40s lighted glass beer signs that interest me in the styles shown below:

I'm not interested in any signs from common, big breweries such as Miller, Budweiser or such, but more obscure, smaller regional beer brands.
I'm especially interested in any quality 1930s -40s beer advertising signs of any kind from California or Nevada (brands such as Sierra, Tahoe, Acme, Eastside, Old Mission, etc. !)
Also would consider a very generous $ offer for the clock as well, but would prefer to trade.
Please e-mail with any questions. Thanks!

Nobody out there with a beer sign like those pictured in
their collection they'd be interested in trading for this?
How about an old beer globe, or beer globe lens?

Sierra,.......have the clobe body & retaining ring been re-painted ?

Is the reverse glass a baked on finish or is it screened with white on the back side?

I know this is not what you are looking for, but I have a question as to this old handles worth. I have never heard of Fox Deluxe, but then again I am not a collector. This was actually being used as a gear shift knob on an old car I bought. It looks to me that it was probably a handle for draft beer.

roadrelics, the clock body and retaining ring are 100% original paint,
everything on it is factory original and pristine on this clock with the
sole exception of the power cord (the original was rubber and had
dried out and was crumbling away, so needed to be replaced).
It's quality porcelain-enameling (glass fired onto glass) on the ad face,
like all the Gill items. It's backlit with 4 incandescent bulbs.

my junk, I have many of these that look just like this in my collection,
from different breweries. It's a beer tap handle, that body is bakelite.
Fox Deluxe was a pretty common Michigan brand at one time.
Like everything else, condition is key on these, and yours has
some pretty serious missing porcelain enamel on the ad face.
Value would be about $50 in this condition to a collector, would
be worth considerably more if it was in great condition.
And yes, it was very common for guys to use these as gear
shift knobs!

Roadrelics, thanks, I would date the clock to the late-1930s. E-mail sent to you to discuss it further.

I have a good friend and a serious collector that is interested in your clock.
I have some photos of trade only items, that he would like to offer, and would appreciate a call to see what else you might consider. He is a fellow California collector.

Thanks for the offer Seth, but I don't really collect neons.
