I have an original 15" metal globe body. One side of the body is fine, and a lens easily fits into it. The other side has been slightly tweaked, and a lens doesn't quite fit. I put a tape measure on it and the diameter on the tweaked side varies from about 14-3/4" to 15-1/4". Any thoughts on how to get this back so that it can safely hold a lens?

Thanks in advance ... Dan

You could try a porta power with a small block of wood on each end and carefully jack it back into shape.

Ditto what Ryan said. I've done this several times with good results. Take it easy, it may take several trys.

Just make sure when you put the lens in the body it sits flat on the back. If not when the snap ring goes in you have a real good chance of it will breaking the lens.
good luck and keep us up to date on what happens.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

Why not just get a reproduction metal body? They are the same as the originals and don't deter any value from the globe itself.

I wouldn't mess with all that and also risk snapping a lens.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably try to straighten the globe body just to see if I can do it, but I do agree with Midway Oil, and won't put the lenses that came with it back into it.
