I was looking back through these pics and noticed the Parco gas truck parked next to the streamliner. Caught my eye because you don’t see the Parco brand in many old pictures and it’s strange that a gasoline truck would be parked next to a train like that. Maybe it was hauling kerosene for coach lighting? That looks like a more modern locomotive so it would use diesel but they didn’t usually fill them from trucks. I have a Parco globe and was always interested in finding information on the brand. Cool pics.

The streamliner next to the Parco truck was Union Pacific's M-10000. This was in service from 1934 - 1941. It used gasoline (not diesel), so was probably getting fuel from the Parco truck. Remember in 1934 almost all the locomotives in the US were steam powered, so the infrastructure required to fuel non-steam powered engines was not yet in place.

That’s very interesting. I guess I never knew that any locomotives ran on gasoline. Makes sense that trucks would’ve been used for that before the infrastructure was in place to refuel them.

A few very early locomotives used gasoline power until a suitable diesel engine was developed not long after the M-10000 was built.
