I bought this a while back with a car from a guy. I posted pics on a FB page and I’m told it’s a Boyle Dayton.

I see Gas pull heaven sells a universal base, skins, top ect so I can restore it

I am a novice to these. My pump is missing two of the hexigon screw on ends to the pipes. Where can I source them and how does this attach to the “ Universal base”?

Looking for any advise thanks

Ok I just realized I posted this pump in 2017. That’s also the same time I started my home build out of pocket and I just got my C of O last week and moved in from my cabin so I now have time to mess with it.

I have the base but two of the pipes are bent. I’m guessing I can fabricate new pipes or try and straighten them.

Are these bases steel or cast?

It appears the pipes are rusted off at the bottom, typically you can use black or galvanized pipe to replace them, you will need to find someone to thread the pipe if you don’t have a set of dies. The base looks like it’s cast iron and you can probably reuse the hex adjusting nuts. The cast iron base can be welded with nickel rod, I would suggest taking it to a welder/welding shop.

Yes all four bottoms are rusted off. And the areas inside the hex nuts are rusty. So on the base it’s threaded at the base or just a hole with the hex nuts on either side ?


Are the hex nuts available anywhere to buy and are they just 3/4 threaded all the way through?

I can’t tell anything in this as it’s all rusted away

I can weld if it’s regular steel, but not cast.

The pumps is a Wayne 78 made by Boyle Dayton for Wayne. If you have a good old fashion hardware store, they may have the nuts, or they should be able to order them for you.

Thanks are the nuts threaded all the way through? Can’t tell on these they are rusted or the pipe is broken and rusted to the inside.

They are threaded all the way thru. It takes two per pipe, they are used to adjust the height, so the skins fit right.

a plumbing supply house can cut and thread your pipes Lowes here will also do it

You can save the nuts by cutting from the inside of the broken pipes out to the threaded part on the nuts. Do not go further than the threads. Make at least two cuts per nut then drive the cut pipe out with a chisel. You will drive the pipe into itself and it will fall out, saving the nuts for reuse. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Like Paul said, you should be able to salvage all of the nuts. I suggest asking if they will put 3” of threads on your pipe before buying the pipe, some places may be a little reluctant to do that.

Probably not reluctant, just incapable of making straight pipe threads and not tapered. It requires different dies they may not have.

I agree with RandyM, takes a special die to make the treads. I tried to make a regular die work, got the threads cut but the nuts wouldn't lock in tight, so I ended up spot welding them in place after I got the length right. Now if I think I have enough threads I cut the pipe just about the threads and weld in a new section to get the length I want. Richard
