Here is my latest restoration. All the bolt on pieces and nozzle are chromed. The inside has been detailed as much as the outside. I spent a day on the sight meter/ manifold alone. Every bolt on it was replaced with gold colored grade #8s. Now I know this pump and brand is nothing special, but this pump is significant as it will soon determine my pump restoration future. With the Frosty Wheels show coming up this week, it had better sell...otherwise I will leave the pump restorations to you other guys. If I have to haul this pump back home, it will still be for sell along with all my other unrestored pumps. Thought I'd post this pic as it could be my last one. LOL Wish me luck. Thanks

Well guys, it's the 3rd and final day of the show. The pump has been the "hit" of the show as far a gas stuff. Nothing but superlative comments like "the most beautiful pump I have ever seen". I'm not bragging, but I must admit, it is a killer pump. Unfortunately, it remains unsold. One guy there brought about 7 pumps which I thought were pretty nice unrestored pumps. Nice pumps to start a restoration on. Found out these were his "restored" pumps! I about died...especially when he has sold every one of them. I had a guy come up and comment that his friend bought one of that guys restored pumps and when delivered, an old birdnest fell out of it. The buyer was pretty tee'd off. My pumps price reflects the quality work, but I don't think it is outrageous, especially with all the chrome plating. Example: His Wayne 70 at $1650 (includes dirt daupers nests) versus mine at an ASKING price of $2295. In a few hours my restoration future will be determined. Thanks for the shoulder guys.

Gary, don't get discouraged if you don't sell it right away. I "used" to restore quite a few old visible pumps, and take them to the Rose Bowl antique show to sell. It would never fail, several guys would walk up, and say "Wow" what a great Texaco pump. If it were Shell I'd buy it. I'm sure you've heard that many times already during this show. But, it only takes one person to recognize the beauty. Many times after the show, I'd get calls from guys wanting it, or from their wife, wanting to surprise the hubby for his birthday or anniversary. It will go down the road, just needs the right driver. ------------------ Don "oltoydoc" Sherwood Vintage Gas

Gary, don't be discouraged. Quality is what counts. Alot of people that buy these bargin pumps don't know what they are buying. There is a guy not far from me in Otto, NC that has a roadside shop selling "restored gas pumps". It is unbelievable but he does nothing more than rattle can paint jobs, no body work or rust pitting repair. And he sells them all the time to people for $1200-1500 for common calculating pumps. It made me want to scream, but people just don't know any better. Yours is well worth the asking price.

Gary, I know how you feel..sometimes i take 8 restored pumps to shows and don't sell any..i can take a few and sell them all..the restored pumps are not selling very good at this time but i hope it will pick up soon..in the last few months i have had to repaint 2 pumps because of wear and tear from lugging them around to the shows. we can only hope and pray that Dixie gas will be a good show this year.

Thank you guys for the words of encouragement. I really appreciate it. The pump returned home with me and today I stopped by a new car lot. This car dealer sells upper end vehicles like BMW, Jaguar, HumVees, 'vetts, etc. Really nice showroom. This was to be my "last straw". He politely declined. Now, I need your help. I will be referring all future "inquiries" I receive about pump restorations to others. I have chosen Larry for a Western area, Mark for the South, Paul for the Eastern part. (If it's OK with you guys). I need a Northern restorer I may refer jobs to. These need to be QUALITY restorations. Anyone up North? Anyone else need to be on my list?Thank you guys again for all the kind words.

It was interesting to read that restored pumps are not real hot right now. Globes are certainly on fire with prices going through the roof on high end stuff. What about the rest of the hobby?
