I would like very to have a visible pump of some kind. I do not have a location at my home to have one because of the height and my garage ceiling is not high enough. I have seen reporduction pumps of Wayne and American pumps that are listed as 6 gallon size and much shorter. Was this a real pump or just a special size made for people like me with a height restriction. Thanks!

MOST 5 & 10gal. visibles meas. 9-10' WITHOUT a globe. Tall 10 & 15gal pump will be higher. A 6gal has either been cut down or is a Repoduction made to fit in a house with 8' ceilings. db

Approx. 20 yrs ago, Time Passages was cutting down original visibles to fit 8' ceilings.
About the same time, I was making 1/2 size visibles to trade for full size pumps. Turning the casting parts out of wood, then making the sheetmetal parts & either buying the small globes or handpainting them. db

A reproduction would be easier, but alot of work to cut a vis down would make you proud.

Cutting-down a visible doesn't have to be all that hard...just dependson the visible. Get yourself somethign like a 620 Tokheim that has straight skins...I cut-down one of those for a customer a while back and it wasn't that bad at all. Just a thought.

A while back, I saw a visible that was about 6' tall and the guy bought it that way. It didnt look like it was cut down or they did a fabulous job at cutting it down. He was going to raise it back up where he thought it may have been until I read somewhere that they use to make them shorter for sitting on a raised concrete portian of an island so people would not run into the pump.

Only pump I know of that mounted to a concrete base of more than 6-8" high is a MAE WEST with exterior pump & w/o sheetmetal base. Concrete was approx. 16-24" . db

I guess i'm just too nostalgic. I think it's a shame to see an original visible pump cut down. Especially since there are plenty of affordable repo pumps available. It's hard to even find a visible pump anymore. It's kind of like finding an original 32 Ford and chopping the top on it when there are 100's of companies making repo chopped bodies. I hate to think these pumps have survived 75+ years in all types of weather and abuse only to be cut down just to fit in somebody's house. Restore one right, mount it to concrete, and display it outside in all it's 10 ft. glory like it was meant to be. If you just have to cut one down, save the original pipes and skins, and buy repo pipes and skins to cut on. Just my opinion.
I found a Fry Mae West 117! Now I need orig. parts! Base doors, cyl. rods, skin & base bolts, reg. fingers, conduit pipe, light arms & shades, & more
