I personally prefer Vinyl but there are guys who really like the water transfer. I have found the water transfer to be fragile and the vinyl to be stronger and more brilliant in color.
Also I see you are in Centerville, I come up to Freeman every year and I am always looking for places to visit Gas and Oil collections...

Todd...water release decals can be very tricky to apply, but new inroads are being made all the time to make them more user friendly. I use (& sell) vinyls 50:1, they are just simple to use and do not need to be cleared, though a properly applied water decal appears like a hand-painted logo. So now that I have thoroughly confused you further, both are available at www.vicsplace.com Seth/Vic's

So the water release deacals you would lay down basecoat, then apply decal, then clear the whole thing? Forgive me if I seem ignorant.

Todd, thats a good question. I'm about ready to apply water release decals on my Gilbarco 96C in Chevron colors. I'm concerner about the blue bleeding through the white. Any tips for us newbies ?

Seth, The old original water slide decals were not clearcoated over, and look how long they lasted outdoors. Why do the new ones need to be ? Dick

They don't absolutely have to be cleared over, BUT, the way the modern ones are made, after a few weeks when they are good & dry, they become extremely brittle and can crack & peel. RECENTLY, the thickness has been doubled and it seems the durability of these new ones will be similar to the vintage ones.

Seth is right. I am doing new decals right now that are FAR superior to any we have made in the past. You will not have to clear coat over these, and they will be very durable for outside use. An added benefit is that they are MUCH easier to use. It took a year of reserch and testing to come up with these improvements and those of you who buy them from Seth will not be disappointed. Right now the 2 Flying A logos are done. We are working on Polly Gas now and are re-doing all the logos as fast as we can. My motivation in doing the waterslide decals is to preserve originality. When you are restoring a pump with a potential value of $4000-5000 and sometimes more, I feel details like this matter to some collectors. I know this is not that important to all, but I am finding more people are requesting them all the time. Mike

That is great to hear Mike. I like the look of the water slides much better than vinyl. I am glad the new ones are easier to use! Keep up the good work!
