BENNETT only made 1 visible , the 810. From 1930-1940. By the time it was intro'd, the visibles were being replaced by Electric Clock Face pumps that were faster & more accurate. Most were sold for private or commercial use & could be sold cheaper. New cost was $75.

As DB said, a very basic and cheap pump. Introduced in 1930 under the Bennett name, when the parent company, Service Station Equipment Co., moved the plant from Muskegon, Mich. to Conschohocken, PA, they started selling the 810 using the SSEC name. Around 1938 they moved back to Muskegon, and returned to the Bennett name.
If you could supply me with the serial number (please give me the complete number and letters) I might be able to tell you what year your pump was made. Without that there is no way to know.

If you are looking for more information about your pump take a look at this page of my website:

http://www.petrolianacollectibles.com/bennett%20810.htm

www.petrolianacollectibles.com/bennett%20810

You will have to copy and paste either of these two addresses to see the page, not able to find out how to post an address that can be clicked on.

Pumps that were sold to small comm. companies or for private use, didn't wear out as fast as it would have at a sevice station and didn't have to be changed out/repaired/replaced/upgraded as stations were closed/re-branded/upgraded.

The scrap drives of WW2 claimed most everything that was not being used on a regular basis. Hence hundreds of thousands of pumps, cars, trucks & machinery were scraped.

How many were made vs how many survived, will always be unknown.

If they only made one model for only 10 yrs it must be a little more harder to find than a 117 FRY.
But rarity does not always mean the pump is valuable.

Ed,
My Blue Book does show the dates of Bennett pumps going back to 1930. Do you have all four Blue Books, most people only have the first three.

I'm waiting for the serial number to let him know when it was made.

I am looking for a letter. According to the lit. I have it states that since 1930 there has been a letter in front of the serial number. This letter will tell me the year.

On the first row of numbers it looks like it could be an I in front of the 3348. Thats all that is on that tag. Thanks Jimmy

Bennett's system to use letters to signify years only includes 24 of the 26 letters. They did not use the I becuase it looks like a 1, and they did not use the O because it looks like the number 0.

Use some OOOO steel wool and try to polish the id tag, let me know what comes up.

There are at least two variations of the 810.

One was made by the Service Station Equipment Co. of CHICAGO, IL and has a cast iron bonnet. It also has the drain back on the RIGHT side as you are looking at the handle. One of mine has a serial number of 14151

The second style was made by the Service Station Equipment Co. of Conshohocken, PA and has a sheet metal bonnet. On this style, the drain back is located on the LEFT side as you look at the handle. Serial number 21722

I should have added the prefix to each # MA 14151 and MC 21722.
