22 years ago my brother found an A-38 with great SINCLAIR H-C glass. At that time we had some NOS A-38 parts, it turned out NICE.
As part of the restoration, I rebuilt the computer. It was the first time I had tried. I cleaned it up, and changed the wheels in it.
It only took a few hours, but it took another 10 hrs to get it to work right. It HAD to work because we had planned on motorizing it.
I started rebuilding computers to put into the pumps I was restoring and selling at the time.
It was still several rebuilds later before I understood what I was doing.
I just couldn't stand the idea of putting that much work into a pump and NOT having a good clean WORKING computer.
Even in this bad pic you can tell the wheel #'s are as white as the door & face.
Here is one from back in the day. ALL original parts, glass & signs. If I ever get some time to scan some of my pics !!!!!
I stripped, sandblasted, filled, painted, assembled, sold. I beleive it sold for $1200.00 20 yrs ago.
I have only restored about a dozen or so pumps.
I enjoyed the finished product more than doing the work, so I stuck with rebuilding computers, and buying and selling pumps & parts.
Actually it was back then that I first tried to build a clock. I retried the idea a few years ago and finally got it right. That, in turn, lead me here.
I have been working on components for gasoline pumps for 28 yrs now..... Since I was 19
ALL of my pump exploits started 'cause I needed a job and a buddy of mine got me on where he worked.
I started off rebuilding nozzles.
I wonder what my life would have been like if I had not have fallen in love with gas pumps???
