I picked this up at a garage sale, is it a fire extinguisher?

No.... Its just a sprayer, like a common fertilizer sprayer. You open the door, which goes inside, load the contents, then pump it up with the handle, which pressurizes the tank. I have a similar unit. I thought that it was kinda cool, so I kept it. Yours is missing the spray nozzle though.

How about a better pic of your car though?

Supposed it could have also been used for a De-greaser [under carriage before servicing a Ford or Trash Truck].

Is there any name on it?

Thanks for the info; It does have a small nozzle, but not what came with it originally. I'm guessing it had a trigger nozzle at one time? Like you, I thought it kind of cool.

Nope, no markings anywhere.

I had one just like that. There was a metal nameplate on it and it was labeled as a fire extinguisher. this said, it is merely aa pump sprayer, not for large fires.

I have seen this type of pump used as a wildfire extinguisher, used for mop-up operations. Almost all true "backpack" wildland extingishers we used were twin chambered. (and heavy, especially when one had to jump with it, lol)

Mick, sometimes one's wildland truck won't make it up a 18% or steeper grade. Especially when the fire's crawling up one's ... backside.. Like I said though, mop up work, just turning over soil and wetting down and knocking down any small "hot spots". Most of the time the USFS and Canadian FS would be more than willing to drop "red sh**" from the sky. Man it's hard to get that .... stuff ... off, or atleast the ...stuff ... we used back in the late 90s.

I SAW TWO OF THOSE YESTERDAY AT A SOUTHAMPTON ESTATE SALE IN THE BARN AND DID NOT KNOW WHAT THEY WERE EITHER.

I'm sure they were used for different things in different parts of the country. Like a lot of other items that are used for other than what they were originally made for.

Dick is wrong on this one, mark it on the Calender!!! This was used for Degreasing the Under Carriage of Dodges & Chevrolets!!!!

I don't know if it is supposed to be a fire extinguisher or not but we had them hanging on the posts in all the army barracks at Fort Gordon Georgia in the 1950s. They were filled with water and cigarette butts.Norm.
