I wish I had a better picture of this Leonard branded location from the 1950's. I delivered it when it was branded Marathon in the 1970's. They have added onto the building located at Clark Lake, Michigan.

Here is another now and then picture showing the The Irish Hills Hi-Speed Gas Station on US 12 Onsted, MI

Virgil Hanes built the Hi-Speed Gas Station 1928. After that it was a Mobil and then Standard Oil station. The canopy was torn down when it was redone to be Mobil for the installation of new pumps and tanks. And also the cars and trucks were getting bigger.

A big thanks goes to Dave Rowlison for helping doing the research on this location.

My guess is that the porch that is on the 2nd floor today is something like what was there before. It is most likely it had to be removed for cars to get between the pumps & building. The pumps are so close to the highway the outside lane would have been considered curbside. The same could be said about the side pumps which were gone when the company I worked for delivered this location.

I drove buy it all the time and never looked up at the signs. Funny how I didn't notice before.

On my way to pick up a Wayne 40A today I saw this sign. An old Chevrolet sign. Looks like it was repainted for something else and that paint is weathering off. Too bad someone cut the top part of the sign off. Nice sign holder. I would have gotten closer but the fence was clearly marked No Trespassing.
