Never seen an Ohio Oil sign with this logo before. Seller does not state that it is original...only that you should bid if YOU think it's original.

The back looks good. I doubt if anyone went to the trouble to make a single repop of that sign. People that make reproductions, usually make several in order to maximize the profit. I'd bet its real, just my 2 cents! Heres a pic of the sign.

I would have probably guessed fake. It resembles a fantasy type sign. Just a guess for fun though. Never seen one before. At $799 opening bid I'd want to be careful if it were me.

Use of this logo dates from the 1920's to the mid 1930's. Don't know if this is real or not. I haven't seen this sign before.
Logo was used in conjunction with Linco Oil. The driver is refered to as "Mr. Linco".

I was waiting a little while to share my thoughs...I'm with Doc and I emailed gaspedler earlier about it...the font, color, and spacing on the guaranteed lubrication seems very suspect.
Best case scenario is the sign was used in conjunction with some type of literature display for Marathon and someone added the lubrication bit later.
IMO I think it's a fantasy/fake.

I handled this sign back in September at Fred's Show, at first I thought it wasn't right but the more I looked at the sign the more I thought it was right. I even ask him if he was going to sell it. He told me no, not at that time. My reasoning is if it is a fantasy sign why make one, if it was being repop why haven't we seen more. Just my thoughts. Dan

Too clean...by now the gromets would be discolored/aged more than what there are, which looks brand new.

Will be anxious to know someday if this is an original piece. I doubt that it is.
I looked at over 150 Ohio Oil station photos from the era this would have been used, and did not see it in any of them.
Doesn’t mean it wasn’t used in limited numbers somewhere.

The use of product & service "guarantee" came after they parked the Linco car character. It came with the Smile-maker service.

Dave...that just furthers my belief that the sign itself may have had some use/purpose for some type of literature display and someone added guaranteed lubrication after the fact. Without the sign in hand no way to tell how the black letters are integrated into the paint.
