Mike: Very nice Champion thermometer. I like anything Champion with the picture of the plug on it....Dale
John: Check out the blotters listed in COTM. You should be able to tell what they are. They were used to clean up after fountain pens on checks, documents, etc...
Wanted: Champion Spark plug, Shell, Pennzoil, Kendall, and Woco Pep signs...Dale Stephens

Ink blotters. They were used to blot or soak up the excess ink from fountain pens. No ballpoints back then.

They were used in the days before ball point pens, when real ink was used with fountain pens and the type you just dipped in the ink! In order to handle the document, the ink had to be dry, and often, it was not! It was then that a blotter was used to soak up the excess ink, in order that the writing would dry faster, and the document could be handled! They turned into an effective method of advertising for all sorts of companies, including the gas & oil industry!!!

Picked up a few new gas sticks and added the Shell restroom key holder to my Texaco's. Plus, another matchbook cover to add to my collection. Not as many new sticks out-there right now, LOL. URL=http://img204.imageshack.us/i/12510smalls.jpg/] [/URL]

Picked up these two local oil cans from a new Shop Talk member about an hour and a half from me. The Streett's is a can from the J.D. Streett Company that I have been trying to find for years. The Site can is also a St. Louis company. I love the art-deco style label design. Thanks, John.

Hey Ed, Yeah, that's my favorite also! I've missed a couple of auctions on this poster in the past... I'm looking for all the promotional stuff that was used during the World's Fair... There are a few "sign up" items I don't have but I've purchased the other two large cardboard signs they used. Here are my two World's Fair signs: 48" x 72" 20" x 33"

Hey Ed,
No, I had no idea you were constructing a minature World's Fair DINOLAND display... PRETTY COOL! I'd like to see it when you are constructing it and when it's finished!
Do you have a link to a thread on the subject? I searched around and couldn't locate anything...
You mentioned an original picture from Bennett... Is the picture of the "Space Age" gas station they had at the edge of the World's Fair? I have a Sinclair Monthly Magazine (Picture News) with a picture of that station on the cover of it and I have an ash tray with a picture of the gas station on it and a description on back...
