Hello all, I am a 24 year old student just finishing up my MBA at The University of Tulsa in Tulsa, OK. I have been in to old cars (mostly 1960s Mustangs) and signs for several years. I just bought my first pump that I am planning to restore. I believe it is a Bowser 585 or 595 (someone who knows please help me out here). I will be taking it back to Phillips colors, as my family has a long history with them. Both my grandfathers worked for Phillips in Bartlesville, OK (Phillips HQ). One of them actually worked in purchasing for gas station equipment, including gas pumps like these.

I look forward to learning a lot from all of you as I continue to get bit by the collecting bug.

Ben

Welcome, Ben! I'm the same age as you, and we (and Tyler wink ) make up some of the younger folks around here. The guys on the site are great, and the ladies here are pretty cool, too. smile Have fun with the restoration!

Hi Ben,
Welcome to Oldgas.com Shop Talk,
Always great to have younger enthusiasts in the hobby.
I love old gas pumps and 1960s Mustangs myself.
Your family history has to make this extra special.

Look on the side of your pump for an ID tag. Should have a stamped number on it. I think the 595 differs from the 585 by how the hose retracts or not? Photos of the hose side might help if you don't have an ID tag.

Click for photo of an older but similar Bowser 565 in Phillips 66 colors.

Thanks! The Mustang in the back is a '65 GT with a 289, 4 bbl and a 4 speed. Hopefully it will be done by summer!

I will check on the hose side and try to post a picture. Of course, mine happens to be missing the ID tag. It appears to have been stripped for some parts. I love that 565! That's exactly the look I'm going for, even if my model isn't quite as cool of a pump.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions to ask! With what was mentioned above about the hose side, I'm confident now its a 585. I have it all broken down now, so I'll post some pics as the restoration moves along. Thanks!

Even through you have the pump disassembled, post a picture of Hose side & one of should be able to tell which pump you have.

Here is the pic of the hose side before I took it apart. From what I have seen, I think that is the hose outlet for the 585. Right?
