So I've never attended a gas&oil show before but plan on attending the show in Columbus and was wondering what to expect. I'm wondering if there's an entrance fee, and what time to get there and the dates ect.. I've heard it was big and there are many vendors.

Thanks,
Robert

Robert, I've not been to this show in a year or two but know that there is no entrance fee. The show is usually set up in the parking lot of the hotel and pretty open to the public. Lots of vendors and plenty to see, both outside and inside. Good luck, Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Good show, probably only second in size to Iowa Gas. I hop on 62 and go. Free admission, it is set up in a hotel parking lot. They moved to a new location last year I believe. Nice place to have it. The parking lot can get hot. A lot of vendors also set up inside, just walk down the hotel hall ways and if the door is open and you see stuff laid out, go on in. Most prices have some room on them to deal with. Normally a lot of nice stuff and a lot more in lesser condition for sale. Pumps, cans signs globes and more. You cant take to much money. Most people deal in cash only unless they know you and even then some will not take a check as they want cash in hand to buy more stuff. A good time for sure. A lot of the best deals sell right away so get there early if you can. Even then you can not see everything that sells and some is sold before hand and just delivered at the show. And a lot of stuff is out of a lot of peoples price range so even if I do find a nice item, I may have to pass on it. It sometimes pays to shop around as several of the different dealers will have duplicate common items. You may be able to find the same can at a better price from a different dealer. You may also go back to get the first can and it will be long gone. Good luck and have fun

I've gone the past 4 years and have to miss this year. It is my second favorite show behind Iowa. The change last year to a new hotel was great. Remember, since the show operators won't let the vendors set up until late morning many of the vendors set up in the parking lot across the street....early and that's where I found all but one of the dozen signs I bought last year. Don't forget the free cocktails at 5:00 in the lobby.

...hey, maybe this year all of the vendors could just set up across the street and eliminate the financial incentive for the hosts that put on the show!!! Wouldn't that be great?? smirk

...seriously, I hope the hosts fix that problem for this year's show...no reason the vendors can't follow the rules...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

My understanding is there will be security to prevent early selling across the street. I think it was a new location fluke that a sale erupted in that field. I have to admit I sold a bunch to Ray and quite a few others and could have gone on home. As long as no one starts selling until set up this year it's all good.

I too plan on going as I'm from Columbus and just temporarily living in STL. If any out of towners want to hit some great local spots I'll play tour guide.

I have a sort of related question. I am hoping to buy an unrestored pump at this show and take it home with me. Has anyone ever transported a pump on one of those hitch haulers, the metal kind? I think it has a rated weight capacity of 350lbs and I'll use plenty of ratchet tie downs. I just don't want to drag a trailer all that way in case I go home empty handed.

Thanks.

IF you go home Empty handed, your either looking for something Real Rare or Bargain Priced. TAKE a trailer or rent a U-Haul [for what the U-Haul cost ya can buy a Harbor Freight 4x8 trailer & spare that will haul 2-6 pumps].

Yeah, I'm looking for bargains. But only because the wifey will be accompanying and she isn't sold on the idea of this new hobby of mine.

Speaking of which...what does an average condition unrestored pump like a Tokheim go for at a show like this?

Yeah, a 39 is what I want. Those prices are good for me, close to the lower number the better. wink
