Is this realistic? 5' grizzly rare but does condition warrant 25k & reserve not met- 6 bidders- 31 bids?, 6 more days to save up.. ebay # 250938702778

I think this goes back to the topic about the Diesel Cheif Pump plate....everybody has a different opinion on "where the value is in a sign?" I think the edge chips are something to expect, but the field chips on the bear would bother me if laying out that kind of money.

Im not saying it's worth the money, thats oppinion. But being extremly rare and grafic, not to mention highly collectable it doesnt surprise me.

You've got 6 different bidders in it at $21,000+..... that must mean something.

The interesting thing is, I was at the Columbus show and the pump plate that sold for $10k was a RESTORED sign, not original. It was nice but looked like a reproduction.

I'm with you. I saw a basket case Wurlitzer 950 sell for $25,000 years ago at auction. It was literally tied together with a rope. It won't come anywhere near that today. Demand pull inflation. Too much money in the hands of people with a skewed sense of value and relative worth. But like they say...perception is reality. Who knows?

That's often the case with "lower" priced items also. There is no real value, just what one person will pull out of his pocket at any given moment. Not to start a debate, but that's why price guides are useless in my opinion. Even based upon whatever the "expert" used to come up with them, they are outdated by the time they reach the public, especially in the mercurial world in which we live today. I feel the same way when I see a sign go for a thousand dollars when I feel it's worth three hundred. Maybe 'desire' and 'feel' fall into the same category.

I am not an expert on Grizzly. I had one that was 42' (I think that was the size), and it was dead mint that didn't sell for that kind of money. I do remember a discussion that the 60' sign was very scarce, more so than any other Grizzly sign. I hope Minuteman reads this post and chimes in. He knows Grizzly items very well.

Grat sign, no doubt about it but the damage kills it for me.
