Anyone have any ideas on this one? Obviously you put the oil can under the spout to fill, and there is an under ground tank of some sort. but how did it work? what is missing on top? I have never seen under-ground oil storage before on a farm. google search yielded nothing on the company. Any help and pictures would appreciated.
Thanks Jay

Looks as if a patent was filed DEC 30th 1916,if you Google the info a link will point you to the official gazette of the united states patent office , pg 404 has the information on the dispenser ! Very neat find & thanks for sharing that with us!

I looked up the info Diesel posted - here is the link to the full patent and description of the pump:

US Patent #1,236,682 PDF Link

Reading through the patent, it looks like it would have had a glass globe on top to protect the mechanics and keep them visible at the same time. Neat find with it still in it's original place!

Looks to be unique among the collectors here...

It would make sense if the farm was far from a railroad station/town. And if it was a big farm, big enough to have motorized equipment and trucks.

I imagine this Holt Gasoline Caterpillar Tractor went through a lot of oil...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Holt_Gasoline_Caterpillar_tractor_1914.jpg

as did these Avery tractors:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avery_Company

There was also the Model T Truck and the 1914 Avery 3 ton Country and Farm Truck and other brands of tractors and trucks used at the time of your oil dispensor.

I wonder if that same farm also had an underground gas tank? Would have made sense...

OR it might have been in the scrap pile/bed of wagon a farmer bought at auction [most farmers will keep iron, never knowing what they Might need later].

May be an antifreeze dispenser, have seen a pic of one that looked like it had a glass cylinder on it.
