I purchased this Balcrank Lubricator last weekend. I had never seen one of these before. Research on the internet reveals that it was manufactured sometimes after 1943 when the company changed it's name to Balcrank Inc. In my opinion it dates to mid 40's to late 50's.

I would appreciate any further information on it. I am unsure if the "VELVETIZER GEAR" lettering/text is original to this unit. The lens is plastic and the lettering is vinyl, which indicates to me that it has been replaced. I would guess that it was originally glass with reverse painted lettering, much like a gas pump globe lens. I am also missing one of the spears off of the front access panel. Wondering if anyone would have one. I am missing the outer one (longest one).

I thank you in advance.

Plastic is older than you think. Fighter planes in WW2 used plastic canopies.

These are cool greasers - I have one also I picked up this summer. It does not have the plastic on it- but mine could be missing? Will have to look closer. I also have some copies of the original literature for them - I'll consult it and get back with more info.

That's funny; but so true. Now that you got me thinking along those lines. I think it's the off spring of a clock face Wayne 60 and a clock face Wayne 70.

Now you got me thinking...maybe the plastic face is original. It definitely has some age to it (yellowing & heat sagging). B/A Oil Company had a grade of gasoline called Velvet 98. I wonder if Velvetizer gear oil had anything to do with them?

Thanks for the great insight.
