This was in an old gulf map. Has anyone ever seen one? Or do you own one? I'd like to see it!

That's pretty cool. I would love to own one of those Gulf highway lighthouses. Hopefully, someone has one and will post pictures of it.

I'm not sure if this 1933 photo is of a Gulf station or what brand the station was? The station was in/on Long Island NY

There was a discussion on these last year, which I can't find, naturally.
Here is a Shorpy photo on how they were placed.

They ran on acetylene. Many years ago I saw one in Darien, Wisconsin, sitting at a Gulf station. There were all sorts of odd things there.

I have seen quite a few few different gulf lighthouse signs...as well as many others. I know of two "mini" lighthouses that are in existence...however I have never talked to anyone that has seen a large size (type with the lighthouse signs like in the pics above) before...and I have asked many folks that have been in the hobby for many years. I believe a full size lighthouse stands right at 9 feet tall...bucktoothkid (dan) on oldgas has more knowledge of these than any one else I know...maybe he will throw in some info...The lights on top are pretty killer as well...some had the gulf porcelain signs on them...others had a "beacon" in the center with porcelain sign surrounding them...they are VERY NICE in person....

Wish I could find a full size highway lighthouse. I know Maryland used them from 1923-1933 and the sponsors paid for operation costs (gas) and the state maintained them. I was able to find the standalone version that was made with only the reflector on eBay. Both the standalone and full sized models had messages for Road End, RR, Curve. I am sure there were more messages but I cant find a full brochure.

...weird, I think I have the 'No Parking' sign shown on the right hand side in the last photo...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
