I have A Red Crown Globe that has raised letters around the base. The opening at the base is approx. 11 inches in diameter. I was told the globe came out of the Tell City In. area. I am trying to determine the dates of mfg. of this globe. Can anyone help.

Hi Kentucky neighbor welcome to oldgas. If your globe is Red and has Red Crown around the base of the crown, the globe book list two types smooth letters & ridged letters. Both were used from 1926 to 1932. Be careful there a lot of reproductions out there. The globe books are for sale on this site. Also there is a lot of info in search.Rex in Owenton,Ky

Welcome aboard!
11-inch diameter base? I don't believe that I've ever seen a globe with that large of an opening. Can you post a picture (or send it to me to post). That will help in the pricing/dating also.
Later . . .
Jim

You may not want to hear this story. Someone had broke the 7 inch base, almost perfectly at the outer egde of the globe base. Richard Bennett helped me greatly. I am just learning about the globes and signs. P.S. may be one of a kind. Bob

This version of the raised letter Red Crown was used from 1926-32. They aren't nearly as rare as the globe book says (fewer than ten known to exist), but because of the raised letters they are normally much more desireable than a common Red Crown globe. This one is too far gone to have any real collector value. Bob
