For those of you who have your collections in your garage, do you have alarms on your garages??

I am fortunate as I own a security company and my place is like Fort Knox. I have a high security locks, a high end commercial alarm system and also have cameras both inside the garage and around the exterior which are linked to my iPhone and computers.
Overkill? Maybe...but it's my stuff and I like it to stay where it belongs. LOL

As my collection grows it's definitely becoming time to beef up my garage security! It's just way too easy to break into people's garages these days. I have guns but that just makes my house more likely to get broken into because of the street value of guns.

I visited with complete stranger last year, and bought a few items. He's been collecting for 60 years. He was real open & nice, and had walls, ceilings and floors filled with items. When I asked him about insurance and then security for his collection,he said he has nothing. Not even a lock on the doors to his garage, where everything was. Said he leaves the house all the time, and doesn't even lock it. He was gloating about how peaceful, carefree & "MayBerry like" his town was today.
I told him I could understand how proud he was of that, but I sure as hell wouldn't be telling people that. Including me,a complete stranger.

My son just retired from the Air Force and his security systems go all the way back to when the Stealth bombers were thought to be UFO's so between ADT and his camera's / securty system I feel pretty safe. Then there's the Glock's and Ar15 to back it up. And if all Fails State Farm Insure's it all.
Thanks Mike

Very interesting. So I'm not the only one who has had this thought. I'm a new collector and only have a few grand into this. But I'll be moving everything into the garage by spring and I was just wondering about this.

I think the best defense is to nail the signs to the wall using extra screws, most thives would rather not spend 30min to deal with getting a 6ft sign down when they could grab things that fit in their pockets. Also, odds are they are more likely to steal smallier things they can carry easily. top 6 things that are stolen 1. cash 2. tools 3.jewelry 4. piggy banks 5.Video Games and Consoles 6.Laptop Computers It may be shocking to you because you value your collections, but most thiefs would perfer cash or things they can easily turn into cash at a pawn shop vs. things that would be tougher to resale or identifiable to police (take photos so if stole your signs can be traced example your sign may have 3 rust spots so you can prove it was yours from a photo) I use ADT here are some more tips http://simplisafe.com/blog/home-security-garage-burglary-tips

Pumps Outside need to have [inside pump] large chain padlocked or pipe buried in/to 500#+ Concrete base as most can be stolen just by backing a pickup close & tipping into pickup.

I do have camera inside and outside . The roofer did not believe they worked when I told them they were on film front and back of the house and when they were done I showed him highlights of all the conversations and a few spots he had tried to leave the old felt paper on. Can't trust any body even when you tell them you are watching.
Remember you are only as good as your help If you don't make any noise no one will hear you!

Wel they won't stop them, but if you have someone on tape or digitally, they can be identified, and easier to find and convict!
Looking for gas,oil related clocks, especially neon and spinners .clock repair available. Mick
