Hi All: I won this sign on Ebay and it has been sent, due to arrive the 19TH. I now feel it is a repo. from India, the back side is rusty. Item#150895590383 Title: Old 1940's Sinclair Gas Motor Oil Porcelain Pump Curved Sign. Is it real? Any experts out there? I will bring it to Freds Gas Bash. Thanks: Rich Taylor

That is a fantasy repro. File an item not as described claim and send it back for a refund.

Any porcelain sign with a rusty back is a repop. Especially if it looks like this.

Thanks to all of you for such a quick responce! I will not even open the package when I get it. I paid with Pay Pal and I have already informed Pay Pal that I believe the item is new and not 1940's. Ouch $$ on the return shipping!
I will be at Fred's Gas Bash this weekend selling but NO REPO. STUFF.
All of us get hurt when people do this on Ebay or flea markets but I doubt this seller knew it was a repo. I will be more careful in the future. When in doubt don't BUY.
Thanks Again for all the information and kind thoughts.

Pretty easy to say a fake...

1. dino has no detail to head.
2. rust on back... ahem... old porcelain process covers the whole plate in a base element to promote adhesion and reduce chipping along edges and reduce disfiguring(see below).
3. Curving? Not curved for any pump, it is due to the heat applied to the metal with only one side coated. This caused the piece to warp as it cooled.

Other pieces he sold... I suspect the Cheer Up is fake as well.

Another case of buy first, then ask.

Doesn't anyone read past posts on this site?

Jack and everyone above is correct. Too many people get excited, buy first, then ask questions. You see other people bidding and you think, wow this piece must be fine. Just remember all those other people were wrong too! Let it be a lesson learned, ask questions and educate yourself!
