i've found a sign, its still on a pole and has been painted over and used to advertise a business. i cant id the sign and have a vauge discription of what i can see through the paint and where the paint is chipping. its a 5-6 foot diameter sign, from the edges in around 6" the porcelain is blue in color and i can see what appears to be white stars, due to the painted shop logo i cant see anything other than that. I'm still trying to talk them into selling it, i know its a weak description but any info would be helpful. thanks

why not do a little local research? the library should have old phone books that would list the gas stations...go back at least 30 years...you should be able to not only find out what the sign should say, you can also learn the name of the business that was there while the sign was being used...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

i appreciate all the input so far, and the pure sign photo is great, what stands out on this old sign (thru the faded and chipped paint over) is the blue porcelain and the white stars, as far as the location its not the original site of a gas station, the sign pole has been made out of different pieces, homemade to accomodate the mounting ring of the sign. and the manager of the place has no idea of where the sign/pole came from or who may have made it. if i get them to turn loose of it an afternoon of cleaning will solve this one- just thought with the stars in the porcelain someone might have an idea- might be something besides gas/oil ? ag related ? thank you all .

thanks for the north star photo, who knows if the paint over was peeling more i'm sure i could see the red, the name of the company using it now is still in good shape. I'll keep trying, if i get my hands on it and find out whats under the paint i'll sure post a photo. thanks for the help. i'm close to the texas border, who knows where it could have come from maybe it migrated from texas or oklahoma.

i had posted a question a week or so ago about a sign id, its been painted over and through the peeling cracking paint it is blue porcelain from the edges in about 6" (thats the best i can see thru the paint over) and i had stated it had stars (like the northstar sign) i got a better look at it earlier this week and i may have misjudged the stars for white dots (like a polka dot pattern) around the edges, like i said its on a pole up in the air, and has an older paint over, I'm sorry to keep beating this dead horse but i thought the dots may present a better clue, talked to the owners again- still no dice SO FAR!!!! also- its a round sign, 5-6' in diameter.

...even if you could post a photo, you're still beating a dead horse...
...what if someone tells you what sign it is, and they turn out to be wrong?...what would you do if you knew exactly what kind of sign it was?...how would that affect your offer?...even if you knew what sign it was, how could you know what the condition was under all that paint?...you're asking for an estimated value of 'a pig in a poke'...impossible...
...the best thing for you to do is figure out what you would offer in a 'worst case scenario': a common sign in not-great condition, and make your offer...if the owners are 'still no dice', move on and find something that's actually for sale...unless you enjoy this kind of thing...
