This is the project I've been working on for the past few months. I've owned it for about 30 years and have had a lot of time to think about what I wanted to do to it. I knew I didn't want something that would only ride on a trailer from car show to show, it's way too fun to drive! I also knew I didn't want to do anything to permanently alter the car, so everything we did change can simple be unbolted and put back to stock if it's ever wanted. My brother and I pulled the body off the frame, rebuilt the suspension with all new pieces, converted it to 4-wheel disc brakes, stripped and powder coated everything underneath including the frame. The engine(428) was rebuilt about 20 years ago and has about 15000 miles since then. The only thing we did to that was put in one of the new "Viton" rear main seals to get rid of the leak prone rope seal. It's at the paint shop right now and I expect it back sometime in February. I won't be able to finish it just yet as I don't have enough $$$ for the interior work yet, but it's getting pretty close to being the car I want it to be.

We cleaned the underside of the body and applied a product called Lizard Skin. It has 2 different coats, one a noise deadening coat and the other a heat insulating coat.

I would have stayed with the stock wheels, but I wanted to go with the 4-wheel disc brake setup. This necessitated going to the 17" wheels, but I kept them at the same overall diameter as the stock wheels and tires were.

VERY NICE. You don't want to here this but many and I stress many of these were used as street stock circle track cars because the motor set back behind A arms more than the chevys.

My older brother had a '69 Model J, it was dark green/black vinyl top black interior with a 400. That was a nice car, thanks for posting the pics and lets see it when it's done.

I got the shell of the car back yesterday while the painter is on a trip. Put the doors and side windows back together and today it's going to get the headliner put in. Time is really getting short before my move to South Dakota and this car is my biggest worry about making it. After the painter gets back from his trip though, it's out of my hands and there just won't be any more that I can do so I'll concentrate again on the rest of the house. Dave
