Hi All, Just picked up this sign yesterday and was wondering if anyone has heard of this brand? The sign is a tin tacker, 14" x 20" and it was made by "Erickson" out of Des Moines, Iowa. I bought it in Minnesota but I doubt it's from Minnesota as I've never heard of it. Does anyone have an oil can or other items from this company? Please share you knowledge if you know about this company. Thanks Greg (noschev)

Got one just like it. All wrinkled as well. Guy at Iowa gas was selling them a few years ago. Sorry, don't know anything about this company.

Yes same guy I suspect. He told me he sold 1 or 2 at Iowa. It had some old green paint on it that fortunately cleaned off nicely. Judging by the placement of the nail holes I'd say these signs were used to cover up some holes in an old building. I'd really like to find a can or something from this company so I knew what part of the country the company was from.

Hello, I have been looking for a WHIRLWIND sign for years. I have some history of this oil product. I would like to share some of it.

Well I should know better to say "never say never"!! Finally found out some information about this sign!! Just got a call from a fellow member, Dennis Wies, who grew up in the town where this company was from. Turns out it IS from Minnesota, Louisburg to be exact. A tiny town out on the western Minnesota border. The story that Dennis relayed is he remembers the small station as a kid back in the 1940's. The owner bought used oil and "re-refined" it and sold it in bulk. The name of his company was "Whirlwind". He didn't have a gas brand marketed by this name, just the oil. The signs were found in an old warehouse in that town many years ago and now they are into the hands of collectors like myself. Mystery solved!

Hi John, This is Greg Samson who owns that sign. How have you been? Tim Hillman and I would like to come down and see your collection sometime. What do you think? Greg 763-350-3825
