Picked up a couple MS80's from an old guy and we began to chat a bit about collecting. He was 89 yrs young and had been at it awhile. He asked if I wanted to see his pedal tractor collection and I said sure. Went to an old shed where he had over 125 pedal tractors - none for sale but still very cool to see them all. Tucked back in a corner was this sign. My last name is White so was attracted to it immediately. Asked if it was for sale and he said for the right price so we worked that out. When was the last time anyone got a five quart oil change for a $1.29?

1.29= 5x .258cents a quart!!! Wow that would have been cheap. This was 20's and 30's for mobil (yes i know that pic is a repop but you get the ideal)

Most likely was Bulk oil out of a Lubester. McGuffey, ya didn't take into account the filter!
Jack or hawkike, During Gas Wars & Overstock of gasoline at refineries when they were almost Giving the gas to stations, did they also Discount the Oil Products ?

In 53 and 54 when I worked in the Standard station we charged 40 cent a quart for Havoline which we kept under the counter and regular Standard was 35 cents and recycled oil was 15 cents a quart in cans. That's what I ran in my 47 Ford. You have to remember oil filters was not standard equipment on cars until the mid fifties or there about. Mitch

Not all cars had oil filters & when they did the filter was changed every other oil change. This car owner got 5 qts of oil, a chassis lube for 25¢, a set of Firestone spark plugs for 50¢ each, & 3 qts of flushing oil all for $4.80 in 1940. I can remember flushing the crankcase but it wasn't with flushing oil ! Dave

Dave - that is really cool. When I worked at a Texaco station back in the mid-60's we use to keep a card file similar to the one in your picture on every car we serviced. Looks like your record sheet was started in October - any idea what year? That could certainly help date the sign.

Steve: I incorrectly mentioned that it was 1940, I should have said he was driving a 1940 Chevorlet starting in 1941. The posted entry came his #3 booklet of the 5 that I have.
