Ever painted (or had painted) a pump and hated the color afterwards?

I just picked up a couple of pumps and one is so nasty looking I'm going to have to get it redone. The paint is smooth and shiney, but the color is revolting.

Either I wrote the number down wrong or they mixed it wrong but this won't work

Ok, I'm thru whining.

Morgan, what a shame!! Do you have a picture of it? If so e-mail it to me, I'll post it and we'll all puke in unison.

That's kinda like charcoal gillling an aged Angus ribeye and using vinegar for steak sauce.

Good luck,

Neal

Neal, I'd be ashamed to have it linked to me. LOL I won't be taking pictures of this one!! I wouldn't want to make everyone sick.

Been there Morgan. One I matched the color from a small spot on the inside door. I didn't like it when it was done, so I let it sit for a month and I did get used to it after a while. Some people come in now and go right to that pump and say what a nice color, and I just don't understand it. Good luck on what you decide to do Richard

Morgan,

My first pump restoration was a Gilbarco 96B done in Mobil Special. I tried to have the paint store scan the red on the pump plate and mix the paint from that. I took the paint to my buddy's house and he painted the pump. Man was I excited to see the pump. He called me and said it was painted, but he was concerned about the color. When I went to see the pump it looked like it had a tinge of purple and pink to the paint. It was aweful! I found out that I could have used 1962 Chevy Roman Red and it would have been an extremely close match. I had them mix it up and my buddy re-shot it. It looks great! My friend did a complete re-paint for a case of beer and, in the end, I think I probably ended up getting an even better paint job. I feel your pain.

Gee morgan ya bring it up and then don't show us.
Unless you got from someone on line here I think you should show us. It's like a bad car wreck ya know you shouldn't look but you just have to.

John

I agree 100% LETS SEE IT!

It's a win / win...either we say "that's not so bad" or "I kinda like it" or "wow you have a good eye cause that IS one UGLY pump"

How can you go wrong?
