Hey guys; I finally got a few restorations out of the way (muscle car, tractor, coke machine, gas pump) and have started tearing down my eco tireflator model 97 for a full resto. Mine has been spray bombed red years ago, but without a doubt it was white from the factory. The whole inside is white, under the red paint over the whole meter including the base is white, etc.
My question is, how rare is a white one? Would it be worth less than a red one if I restored it white, or does it matter? I think I would prefer red, but if a factory one is rare or valuable then I might be persuaded to change my mind~!

In my opinion, red is the correct color for these. I have custom painted air meters for clients to many brands but always do my spec. units red. I don't think a white unit is rare at all....it's just white? Paul www.severngaspumps.com

Paint is paint, do it your way, it can be re-done by next owner.
It might have been ordered white by company [White Rose, Marathon, etc].

I would paint it red as it would look better then white. Quality of the restoration will add value not color in my opinion.

The only two oil companies I have been able to confirm ordering ECOs in a color other than red is Marathon and Mobil. Both of these companies used an off white, similar to Cold Pizza's unit.

If you need any parts for your restoration, check out this section of my website: http://petrolianacollectibles.com/eco%2090%20parts.htm

Jack;
I did send you an email regarding buying a restoration manual for the 97; did you receive it?

Slipperpicker,

Your ECO is another example of a lazy repair man who drilled holes through the chrome so he could replace the glass without taking the ECO apart. These meters show up in Canada and along the border.

To add to Cold Pizza's post

.....if they didn't steal the hose first.
