I have a Gilbarco 96 pump that needs 2 of the three top pieces replaced because of rust. Can anyone out there help?

If you care to go with fiberglass, the top and "lid" are being reproduced and sold at Webers, Vic's Gaspump Heaven and other places.

Tom, I had the same problem with the OPP top. From what I hear these tops are the first thing to **** out on these pumps. I wanted to keep this pump as close as I could to original so instead of using a repro plastic top I decided to repair the original. Here's what I did:

REMOVE THE ROTTED INSERT THEN SANDBLAST

I THEN CUT SOME HEAVY FIBERGLASS CLOTH INTO STRIPS

USING POLYESTER RESIN I CRISS CROSSED THE LAYERS ABOUT 4 OR 5 THICK

NEXT I CUT A PIECE OF 18 GAUGE CARBON STEEL SHEET METAL TO THE EXACT SIZE OF THE INSERT, EPOXIED IT IN AND THEN LATER LAID 2 MORE LAYERS OF CLOTH TO HELP BOND THE INSERT TO THE TOP. I THEN DID THE BONDO / SPOT PUTTY THING TO THE EXTERIOR

I THEN DRILLED OUT A HOLE (ABOUT 50 THOUSAND HOLES IT SEEMED LIKE), TOOK A 2" GRINDING ROLLER THEN MADE THE HOLE ROUND

AFTER THE PRIMER, SANDING DEAL IT WAS EVENTUALLY PAINTED AND CLEAR COATED

I know there are many ways to repair things, this is just the method I chose here which worked out well for me.

MAN my dial up is killing me. The above post ended up loading twice. Was here but I deleted it. One day maybe they'll offer broadband or something faster than the Ma Bell deal so I can stop pulling my hair out!

Neal that looks great, very professional. I have never tried body work with fiber glass and bondo, but may go ahead and attempt it.
thanks

Tom, Anyone with a 96 faces the same problem. Depending on how much rot there is some fiberglas and Bondo is a great solution. Neal shows how to do it... my only comment is that he went a bit heavy with the putty and "lost" the seam where the rectangular top originally bolted to the stamping. My 96 is outside and has survived 112 inches of snow and summer temps of over 100 degrees. Don't be afraid to work with the glas, it is very forgiving. Just make sure your top is clean when you start.
