My eBay asking prices are just that - asking prices and always highly negotiable. This is due to the environment eBay brings. I sell mostly buy it now(which nobody does) or best offer (because people lowball on eBay and usually we can find a happy medium if the potential buyer is seriously interested).
Would I price things that way at a show face to face? Absolutely not, it would be priced to sell with a very little room for negotiation.

All I'm saying is that I was disappointed in the show and the types of items. I was expecting to see more vendors and more actual gas/oil items.
A good percentage of what I was looking at was John Deere hats, matchbox cars, magazine clippings in frames, newer signs, a few vending items, and reproduction items.
A few good booths with nice stuff, just not priced to sell - not even close.
And the two that I bought from, thank you for being there to SELL

The shell globe I am referencing is item # 221386515191 and it ends this weekend. It's a current auction, I have more than one of these globes. HMMMM

My 2 cents..... doe's gr8 have his own plane?, or was he bringing stuff back in a carry on? "Flew into Chicago from Minneapolis early Sunday morning, rented a car, and headed South to Peotone".
All I heard on saturday (from friends and Old-Gas) was that the show was going to be low on vendors because of the bad weather. So if I would have been going I would have known this.
I have yet to get to Peotone for a show but will be heading to Iowa Gas for I think the 13th year and for me the show includes seeing friends I've met in this hobby, going to the swap/show and staying for the auction. But I'm a collector not a picker/seller so I'm not looking for resale value for any time in the near future! There have been years I have come back with a truck full and years it's just a few items. If you give up on Oil-Gas shows because the one you go to and this during a stormy weekend had nothing for you then there is no reason to go again. But IMO don't fly to a show (unless you have your own plane) because that deal your looking for probably won't fit in your carry on!! again just my opinion!
Thanks Mike
Always Looking for any Pure Oil and Sunoco Items.

Like Tom said I had a great show selling. I price to negotiate. If you thought others were priced high perhaps you didn't ask for a low enough price. I sold a few items and when people came back and said I would have paid that. My response was you didn't offer. In gas shows and life you don't get it unless you ask for it is a good general rule. You're new to shows. I remember my first Peotone as an early buyer walking in the room for the first time and seeing everything set up (I think it was my first show as well) I thought immediately that set up was the time to be there. If you can be there never miss the set up if an early buyer opportunity is available. Weather hurt the attendance, both vendors and buyers. The show is usually packed. Don't give up on shows it's the best way to gain knowledge and support the hobby. Go with an open mind. You have varying degrees of success at each one. A bad day at a gas show is better than a good day at work for most of us.

No beef here.Picked up some nice things. Was a good show with items priced reasonably. Good to see everyone again and glad those who didn't feel comfortable driving in this weather, didn't.
Gr8 You need to come more then just one time to voice an opinion like that....sounds like you were looking to discover King Tuts Tomb and take off.

My brother did great selling at the show. He had his items priced to sell and had some wiggle room on everything. He sold most of his stuff on Saturday, some as he was unloading his truck. A bunch of stuff never even made it in the door. If you buy right, you can sell it quick and keep your cash flow moving. However, if you only try to get top money for stuff, a lot of times you will be taking the same items to the shows for years. You then have your money tied up in stuff and have the risk of damage or loss. Buy it right, put a fair mark up on it and move it. If you didnt find anything at the show on Sunday, maybe you should have gotten there on Saturday..?

Just got back from a long trip, was surprised how much of the show was hats, reproductions, new paper adds as well as a lot of farm items. I bought a few things from some great dealers, still not sure it was worth the trip. Would be nice to see the promoters of the shows stop the reproduction , hats toys. I know it is a money issue just a thought.

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
